What is a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney, or POA, is a legal mechanism that allows someone to make decisions or act on the behalf of another, within the confines of the law and the language of the prepared POA documents.

If you are creating a Power of Attorney, you will choose an agent who will later act as your "Attorney-in-fact" and will be able to assist in decision making or a variety of transactions (such as financial transactions). This is very useful in the event of incapacitation or death.
